Since I’m making an announcement, I might as well write my thoughts on the upcoming release.

As you all know, I’m an author who enjoys experimenting with different things—I’m eager to try all kinds of genres and styles.

What I write varies in length and theme, often leaning towards chaos.

When choosing the topic for this book, my old habit kicked in again. The thought of writing a food-themed story, something I hadn’t tried before, got me itching to start.

Honestly, I’ve wanted to write a food novel for a long time, but back then, it was just a vague idea.

My initial concept was similar to an old game called “Chef Wars,” but when the game was released, I was busy with something else and never got around to writing, eventually forgetting about it.

It wasn’t until last year, when I played “Dave the Diver,” that my food (and fishing) passion was reignited.

At the same time, I suddenly felt like writing about urban legends. Those who follow my previous work, “Prophet,” might remember I mentioned during the preview of my new book that I was deciding between food and supernatural themes.
(Translator's Note: The previous book was 打工先知 which translates roughly to Working Prophet or Labour Prophet. However, the author just referred to it with the last two characters which is just Prophet)

But then I thought, why not have both?

And that’s how the story of Ma Lu and Old Wang came to be.

Although, to be honest, it didn’t start smoothly.

Before writing, I gathered a lot of reference materials, including Japanese dramas (“Midnight Diner,” “Kodoku no Gourmet”), American shows (“The Bear”), anime (“Food Wars,” “Toriko”), and even chef biographies (like “Genius Chef’s Ultimate Temperature,” which I really enjoyed and which gave me some insight into how top chefs approach cooking), as well as popular food novels on Qidian…

But when I actually began writing, it didn’t quite feel right. What you see now in the opening chapter has been rewritten at least seven times before I finally found the right tone.

I’ve been continuously revising the chapters since then, and I’d like to extend my gratitude to my editor, Luming, who reviewed my drafts, went through numerous revisions with me, and provided a lot of valuable suggestions.

As a result, by the time I reached this point, we had already gone through the New Year, and I was almost out of my manuscript stockpile. Sigh.

Finally, the most important thing—I’ve prepared four chapters for the release.

Compared to other authors, it might not seem like much, but I’ve genuinely tried my best.

I’m naturally slow with my hands, and even though this work has pushed me to burn my little universe’s energy, due to the heavy amount of setting involved, in the end, it mostly proved once again that I’m not very combustible.

I’ll still do my best to ensure the quality. Scratching my head here.
