Infinite Cosmic Cafeteria Chapter 99: Equipment

Qin Zhao was taken aback by the sudden voice. Although his skills were not what they once were, his top-tier hunter’s instincts were still sharp. However, he hadn’t noticed when the person behind him appeared.

Mai Mai’s eyes lit up as she threw down her magazine and cheered, “Vice-Captain, you’re finally back!”

Bocchi’s expression was a bit unnatural, but she nodded slightly at Ma Lu.

Ma Lu had already walked over and sat down on the sofa in front of Qin Zhao.

“You must be Ma Lu,” Qin Zhao said.

Qin Zhao was quite curious about this mysterious vice-captain of Double Sunflower. The name Double Sunflower had become well-known throughout The Giant Screen, and naturally, the guild had conducted its own investigations.

The information on the other members was accessible, but Ma Lu, the vice-captain, was an enigma.

The only thing they could confirm was that he wasn’t a native of The Giant Screen and had only recently arrived. He was rarely seen in the city.

“That’s right. And you are...?”

“Qin Zhao, Vice President of the Hunter Guild,” Qin Zhao introduced himself.

“Ah, I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Despite his words, this was actually the first time Ma Lu had heard of Qin Zhao’s name.

After they shook hands, Qin Zhao turned to Bocchi. “It seems your team is fully assembled now.”

This time, Bocchi didn’t hold back and directly asked, “What does the guild want us to do?”

“As expected of his daughter, your approach is just as direct and sharp as your father’s. In that case, I’ll get straight to the point.”

Qin Zhao praised her briefly before continuing with a serious expression. “Here’s the situation: According to our latest intelligence, two Six-Armed Ancient Apes are approaching The Giant Screen. These terrifying beasts reside in the Dead Zone.

“They are even stronger than the Earth Dragon you previously dealt with. Their immense strength can easily breach The Giant Screen’s concrete walls, so we need to eliminate this threat before they get close to the city.”

Mai Mai rubbed her nose. “Six-Armed Ancient Apes—legendary prey, and there are two of them? Does the guild really trust us that much to give us such a commission? Even after our promotion, we’re still just a Silver Level team.”

“Of course, we don’t expect you to face the Six-Armed Ancient Apes alone; that would be too much to ask. This is actually a joint commission involving over a dozen hunting teams, divided into two squads.”

Qin Zhao paused before continuing, “Unfortunately, we’re severely understaffed. Most of our high-level teams have been assigned to deal with the three Iron-Eating Sacred Beetles underground, which have been gnawing at the foundations of The Giant Screen, posing a serious threat to the lower levels. They need to be dealt with as a priority.

“As a result, we don’t have many teams available to handle the Six-Armed Ancient Apes. For prey of this level, sending in ordinary teams would be a death sentence. Only Gold Level teams or higher are useful in this scenario.

“Though you’re only Silver, your ability to single-handedly kill an adult Earth Dragons speaks volumes about your strength. The question is, are you willing to take this on?” Qin Zhao’s eyes were filled with hope.

Bocchi didn’t disappoint him. “When do we leave?”

“As soon as possible. The two Six-Armed Ancient Apes are getting closer, and the other teams should already be heading to the guild hall.”

“Understood. We’ll get ready and head over immediately.”

After Qin Zhao left, Ma Lu went to change into his hunting gear.

The last time Double Sunflower took down both the Emperor Red-Backed Scorpion and the Earth Dragons, just those two hunts earned them 1 million and 2.8 million kilowatts of energy, respectively.

In addition to those, a lot of lower-star ingredients were also hauled back by Bocchi and Setta in batches, totaling around 300,000.

Adding in the commission received from the guild, even after splitting the earnings among the five of them, each person still pocketed nearly 900,000—a huge windfall!

And the first thing to do with the money was to upgrade their equipment. Even Setta and Senqi didn’t hold back this time.

The Giant Screen was experiencing a beast tide unlike any seen in a century, and in such times, improving their strength was paramount. Survival was the most important thing; no amount of saved money would matter if they couldn’t outlast the tide.

Thus, after a spree of intense shopping, everyone’s hunting gear was upgraded to the highest level.

Made from the hides of powerful beasts, their new hunting suits were lighter and more durable, capable of withstanding normal attacks—so much so that even an ordinary person couldn’t pierce them with a small knife.

In addition to the suits, each of the five members supplemented their gear according to their combat styles with smoke grenades, high-explosive grenades, chest armor, arm shields, and more.

However, the most significant surprise was yet to come.

No sooner had Qin Zhao left than a heavily street-styled transport truck, spray-painted in vibrant colors, pulled up in front of the apartment building.

A man in a checkered shirt, baggy shorts, and flip-flops stepped out of the truck.

His way of announcing his arrival was quite unique: he placed a high-powered radio on the roof of the truck and blasted heavy metal music without a care.

He yawned and pulled his 【bleep】 out of his shorts, nonchalantly urinating against the wall.

“You’re still as uncouth as ever, Collette.”

By this time, the five members of Double Sunflower had come down from the building, and Mai Mai spoke up.

The man in the checkered shirt pulled up his pants, unfazed. “This is a genius’s privilege—ordinary folks like you wouldn’t understand. Besides, it’s the end of the world now; who cares about this stuff? This is the time to unleash yourself, to do whatever you want so you won’t have any regrets when you bite the dust!”

“No, it’s not time to despair yet. We will defend The Giant Screen,” Bocchi stated.

“Heh... big words,” Collette tilted his head, scrutinizing the five. “I hope you’re worthy of my babies; don’t die too quickly. I want to gather more feedback on their use.”

As he spoke, he opened the back of the transport truck, revealing four boxes of varying sizes.

“I’ve been studying the blueprints you brought back, and I’ve managed to successfully recreate some of the designs. As agreed, they’re yours.”

He opened the first box, revealing five pitch-black masks inside.

“This piece of equipment I call—Villain’s Mask,” Collette explained. “When worn, it conceals your face, and its pure black finish makes you look like a tough character that no one would dare to mess with. Heh heh heh.

“Besides the intimidating look, it also serves as a face covering, protecting your nose and mouth from sand and wind—better than a scarf.

“It also has a built-in radio communication system, allowing team members to communicate in real-time within a 5-kilometer range during battle. And most importantly...”

Collette put on one of the masks, then pulled a smoke grenade from his waist, pulling the pin without hesitation. The acrid smoke quickly filled the air.

The members of Double Sunflower instinctively stepped back.

Collette, however, remained still. He simply tapped the edges of the mask twice and stood nonchalantly in the smoke.

About a minute later, the smoke dissipated, revealing Collette completely unscathed.

“Oxygen mask mode,” Collette said. “This mask can temporarily act as an oxygen mask, allowing you to handle low-oxygen and toxic environments. But remember, it can only last for 3 minutes in this mode. Any longer, and you’ll still suffocate.”
