When Bocchi and Setta arrived at Gate 1, Wei Cha was visibly surprised again, seemingly not expecting to encounter members of the Double Sunflower Hunter Group once more.
This was already their third meeting in just two hours.
“You guys took the commission too?” Wei Cha asked in surprise.
“Yeah,” Bocchi nodded.
“Bold move!” A glint flashed in Wei Cha’s eyes. “After the commission is complete, don’t rush off. I’ll treat you all to a drink.”
“Sure.”
“Make sure to bring Ma Lu along too.”
“I’ve told you before, stop targeting him. He’s not leaving Double Sunflower.”
“I know. You guys went outside the city just to get him, didn’t you? It seems that although your hunter group hasn’t been around for long, the bonds between your members run deep.”
Wei Cha paused for a moment. “Don’t worry, I’ve given up on poaching from you. I just want to make friends—it’s rare to meet young people I get along with.”
“I’ll pass on your invitation to him, but he might not have time,” Bocchi replied.
Their conversation was brief. Wei Cha was straightforward and candid, speaking his mind without any beating around the bush.
In contrast, another familiar face gave Bocchi more of a headache.
She hadn’t expected to run into so many acquaintances on this cleanup commission; the Harpist Hunter Group had also submitted their application just before the deadline.
Gu Li spotted her in the crowd and immediately walked over.
“This is reckless,” Gu Li said, his face stern as soon as they met. “I know you want to be a hero of this city like your father, but this is just reckless.”
“How am I being reckless?”
“You must have heard about the tragedy outside Gate 3 before you returned to the city. That Golden-Spotted Leopard probably hasn’t gone far.” Gu Li lowered his voice. “You’re just a Bronze Level hunter group; you shouldn’t be taking on such a dangerous commission.”
“We have the strength to protect ourselves.”
“No, once the gate opens, don’t leave my sight. Our two groups should act together...”
“Captain Gu Li,” Bocchi interrupted him, “can I ask you a question? If this commission is so dangerous, why did you come?”
“Of course, to uphold Harpist’s honor,” Gu Li said seriously. “We are one of the only four diamond-level hunter groups in The Giant Screen; how could we fall behind others in times like this? If your father were still here, he would do the same.”
Hearing his answer, Bocchi fell silent again, especially when she saw the gray hairs at Gu Li’s temples and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. The words that were about to spill out of her mouth were swallowed back down.
When she was still with Harpist, her relationship with Gu Li was not particularly harmonious, and they had clashed more than once.
After Li’s death, Harpist’s decline became inevitable, yet many were still lost in the glory of the past, unwilling to face reality.
In their eyes, Gu Li, as the acting leader, was clearly unqualified, and under his leadership, the hunter group was gradually deteriorating.
But Bocchi knew that Gu Li had given everything he could to keep Harpist afloat.
In a way, she and Gu Li were facing the same predicament.
Her psychic ability wasn’t enough to make her a great hunter, and while Gu Li might have been an excellent hunter, his skills were far from sufficient to lead a diamond-level hunter group.
Yet fate had pushed them into positions that didn’t belong to them, forcing them to shoulder responsibilities they couldn’t bear.
For the first time, Bocchi realized how heavy the past glory of Li and Harpist truly was. It didn’t feel like a blessing; rather, it seemed more like a curse.
Gu Li wanted to persuade her further, but Bocchi said, “The gate is about to open, and we’ll be busy, so we won’t be traveling with you, Captain Gu Li. However, if you encounter danger and need help, just call my name.”
With that, Bocchi hopped on her motorcycle.
Ma Lu and Senqi were already in position on the city wall, where the high ground and good visibility were perfect for launching attacks.
Ma Lu had his eyes set on the group of Red-bellied Rattlesnakes directly in front of Gate 1. As 2-star ingredients, they fetched a good price in The Giant Screen’s market, selling for about 90 units of energy each.
However, with the current beast tide, all kinds of beasts were rampant, driving down market prices. Even so, each snake could still be sold for at least 30 units of energy, and with the guild’s commission subsidies, their total income would increase as they collected more.
Plus, clearing these out was necessary before they could hunt the rarer prey behind them.
Before the gate even opened, Ma Lu and Senqi had already started taking action.
Using 【Explosive Divine Arrow】 paired with 【Pain Link】, each arrow took out at least a dozen Red-bellied Rattlesnakes.
Explosions rang out one after another!
In just three minutes, Ma Lu and Senqi had wiped out at least 200 Red-bellied Rattlesnakes, effectively clearing an area in front of the gate.
When Gate 1 finally opened, everyone was greeted by a field of dead snakes.
Still in shock, Gu Li and the others watched as Bocchi and Setta drove their motorcycles out of the city.
To guard against a sneak attack by the Golden-Spotted Leopard, Bocchi created three water rings that hovered around her body.
Though these water rings had no offensive or defensive capabilities, they would break if touched, making them ideal for early warning, especially against invisible enemies.
Setta’s approach was much more straightforward and brutal; he donned three layers of heavy armor, effectively turning himself into an iron can.
This gear weighed over 260 pounds in total, which would be burdensome even to walk in for most people, let alone hunt.
Thanks to the Double Sunflower Hunter Group’s 465% strength boost, Setta could manage it.
After exiting the city, the pair headed straight for the Red-bellied Rattlesnakes, loading them into the cargo box attached to the back of the motorcycle.
Nearby beasts noticed them and, like moths to a flame, swarmed towards them.
However, Bocchi and Setta focused solely on collecting the blasted remains, leaving the still-living beasts for Ma Lu and Senqi to handle. They only intervened when a few stragglers slipped through.
Explosions went off around them intermittently. The beasts charged fiercely but fell in droves before they could get close, dropping like wheat during harvest.
It didn’t take long for the large cargo box behind the motorcycle to fill up, and even the cart dragged by the sand puppets was piled high with prey.
Bocchi and Setta returned to the city, dumped their haul at the base of the wall, and hurried back out to keep loading.
By this point, everyone, including Wei Cha, was stunned. The gate had been open for a full ten minutes, but none of the other hunter groups had ventured out.
They were too busy watching Bocchi and Setta, who were picking up one after another, making it feel less like hunting and more like stocking up outside the city.
