Someone let out an audible gulp.
Although the prey collected by the Double Sunflower Hunter Group wasn’t particularly rare, the sheer volume was overwhelming. Every time Bocchi and Setta left the city, they brought back around two thousand pounds of goods.
And since they were right at the gate, transporting everything back was easy. It didn’t take long to make a trip—it was practically like picking up money off the ground.
Watching them had stirred up the ambition in many onlookers, but those willing to take the risk of being attacked by the Golden-Spotted Leopard to accept the commission were mostly not small hunter groups.
After observing for so long, they realized that the beasts were being killed by someone on the city wall, and that the archers were from the Double Sunflower Hunter Group.
Taking prey from other hunter groups in public was something they wouldn’t stoop to, but what baffled Wei Cha and his men was why the arrows were so powerful, with some even exploding on impact.
What kind of psychic ability was this?
When Wei Cha released his Sea of Fire, it could cover an even larger area, but the problem was that even with years of rigorous training, he could only release it five or six times in a battle.
Meanwhile, the two on the city wall seemed to have psychic abilities that were endless.
The sound of explosions outside the city was almost constant, drawing in more beasts from the surroundings.
Wei Cha decided not to stand around watching any longer. He turned to his team members and said, “Let’s go, time to start! Even if we can’t match them, we can’t fall too far behind!”
As Blazing Fang’s members sprang into action, the other hunter groups seemed to snap out of their daze. No matter how many beasts someone else killed, it was still someone else’s money—not theirs.
They needed to seize the opportunity to hunt more beasts, not only to ease the pressure on The Giant Screen but also to make some money at the market.
In the end, only the members of Harpist hadn’t moved.
Tucker, with his mohawk, swallowed hard. “They’re killing faster than they can collect; so much is getting eaten by other beasts before they can even pick it up—it’s such a waste. Captain, why don’t you talk to them? We could help them collect, and we can split the loot fifty-fifty, or even seventy-thirty would be fine.”
Before Gu Li could respond, Chi Qi scoffed. “Is that all you’ve got?”
Tucker’s temper flared. He turned and grabbed Chi Qi by the collar. “Huh?! We’re friends with Bocchi. What’s wrong with friends helping each other out? I was against letting Bocchi leave in the first place—it was you who wanted to be vice captain and drove her away!”
Chi Qi sneered, “If you guys are such good friends, why didn’t you leave with her back then? Deep down, you didn’t think she was strong enough, did you? Now you’re jealous because she’s doing well, and you want to cozy up to her again. How pathetic can you get?”
“Chi Qi!” Even the usually mild-mannered Gu Li was visibly angry, his expression more serious than ever. “Don’t talk about your teammates like that. Apologize to Tucker.”
Then he turned to Tucker, who was clenching his fist, ready to punch.
“You too. There are so many hunter groups here. Do you want to disgrace Harpist and let everyone laugh at us?”
“Damn it!” Tucker cursed but ultimately lowered his hand.
Chi Qi, expressionless, muttered an apology.
Gu Li sighed, while the rest of the team seemed used to such incidents; none of them reacted, merely watching coldly.
At that moment, Setta returned with another load of prey on his motorcycle, with a sand puppet in tow, pushing a cart piled high with even more.
“Make way, make way! Thanks, thanks, we’re in a hurry!”
Setta shouted as he hauled the goods to the wall, unloaded them as quickly as possible, and then hopped back on his motorcycle to head out again.
His look, clad in three sets of armor, was somewhat comical, but none of the Harpist members found it funny at all.
Chi Qi remarked, “Bocchi doesn’t have this kind of skill, and while the other members of the Double Sunflower Hunter Group are decent, they’re not strong enough to reach this level. So, the key must be their mysterious vice-captain. He’s the real reason behind Double Sunflower’s rise.”
“Why bother with other people’s business?” Gu Li said with a stern face. “Bocchi was once a part of Harpist, and now she’s found a better place. We should be happy for her and focus on our own tasks. Let’s go, we need to start hunting as well.”
He then patiently reminded his team, “Remember, don’t stray too far from the gate. If danger arises, you can retreat immediately. Stay together in a circle formation to avoid being attacked from all sides…”
But before he could finish, Tucker was already rushing out of the gate with his mechanical spear.
Chi Qi’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “See? I told you, if you keep indulging them, everyone will end up thinking they can just push us around.”
“Save your criticisms for when you actually become the vice-captain of Harpist,” Gu Li said calmly.
“That day isn’t far off.” Chi Qi shrugged. “Once I’m vice-captain, my first act will be to straighten this hunter group out. Those who don’t listen will be kicked out. Harpist used to be a diamond-level hunter group, The Giant Screen’s legend—it’s pathetic how far we’ve fallen.”
“I warn you, don’t do anything reckless. I’ll be watching you. Now, use your ability.”
Chi Qi said nothing more, murmuring a spell, and in the next moment, a violent wind whipped up yellow sand, enveloping the members of the Harpist Hunter Group.
Every hunter group that accepted the commission had their own methods for dealing with potential attacks from the Golden-Spotted Leopard, but perhaps only Bocchi secretly hoped that terrifying beast would reappear.
Although Ma Lu would always use his Roguelike ability when he was around, Bocchi could clearly feel this time was different—her body felt stronger than ever.
Her strength, endurance, speed, and reflexes were all elevated to a whole new level.
The world seemed to slow down before her eyes, and Bocchi felt like she could defeat any opponent.
But she also knew that this state would only last for a few more hours; once Ma Lu left, all the magic would dissipate, and she would revert to being an ordinary hunter.
So if she wanted revenge, now was her best opportunity.
However, the Golden-Spotted Leopard never reappeared. Instead, something else was disturbed by the chaos. Ma Lu and Senqi’s rampant slaughter finally caught the attention of a powerful beast:
The Emperor Red-Backed Scorpion.
This scorpion was the size of an adult yak, with a dark red back, a pair of central eyes, six side eyes, and a tail as thick as its body, ending in a massive stinger. It was clearly not to be trifled with!
Moreover, it was accompanied by a swarm of smaller scorpions, each about the size of a small dog. They moved like an army, fiercely surrounding their king as they charged forward.
However, this dense formation was perfect for exploiting 【Explosive Divine Arrow】. By the time the swarm reached the gate, half of the smaller scorpions had already been wiped out.
And they were fiercely loyal, constantly clustering around the Emperor Red-Backed Scorpion. As soon as one batch died, another would take its place, always protecting their monarch.
This loyalty meant that each explosion inflicted damage on the Emperor Red-Backed Scorpion, and by the time it reached the gate, the once-mighty scorpion, which hadn’t even had a chance to strike, simply keeled over and died.
